As you all know, we have been organising the Masters Single Trophy “Jutta Deuschl” at every Euro Masters Regatta since 2021 in memory of our board member Jutta, who died of cancer in January 2021 at the age of just 47. This year we want to do something even better. Together with the Charity Foundation Stiftung Leben mit Krebs, the Munich Technical University’s Hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar and the Munich rowing clubs, we will be hosting the charity regatta “Rudern gegen Krebs” (Rowing against Cancer) as part of the Euro Masters Regatta on Sunday, 28 July 2024 – interlinked with your 4x and 8+ mixed events and alternating in several blocks. As a rule, rowing novices compete against each other in Rowing against Cancer after just a few training sessions. To enable you to take part, we have introduced a separate Masters class. This gives you the opportunity to support a good cause and take part in the “Rowing against Cancer” charity regatta in addition to the mixed races on Sunday.
Here are the key points:
- The charity regatta is mainly about the good cause and a lot of fun!
- The “Rowing against Cancer” distance is only 250 metres, which is a nice change from the usual 1,000 metres.
- Normally, the participants in “Rowing against Cancer” start in gig quads. This will remain the case for regular participants in the charity regatta However, Masters will start in the usual quadruple scull racing boats if they register in the Masters class.
- We do not run the charity regatta considering age categories and not in the classic mixed crew combination of 2 men and 2 women. You can enter any age in the quad and combine everything from pure men’s or women’s boats to classic mixed boats up to three women/one man or three men/one woman.
- Depending on the number of entries in the Masters class, there will be heats, semi-finals and finals.
- The entry fee for “Rowing against Cancer” is €400 per boat, of which €250 will be donated directly to the cancer project of the Klinikum rechts der Isar. The entry fee includes a “Rowing against Cancer” shirt from Macron/Peakzone for all crew members. Medals will be awarded for the first three in their class. The award ceremony will take place on Sunday afternoon on the “Rowing against Cancer” stage.
- Registration for participation in “Rowing against Cancer” takes place separately at https://start.rudern-gegen-krebs.de. The registration deadline is 30 June 2024 at midnight.
- The charity regatta is under the patronage of Munich’s Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter and the Dean of the School of Medicine and Health at the Technical University of Munich, Professor Stephanie E. Combs.
- The medical staff of the hospital will take part in the regatta in the regular participant category.
